Requirements or character traits for ones who may dwell in the Lord’s Sanctuary based on Psalm 15
A Person
- Whose walk is blameless – spotless, unblemished, guiltless, upright – ways are upright
- Who desire righteousness - blameless, honest, upright, just
- Who speaks the truth that comes from his heart – honest, truth, guileless
Based on the above 3 bullet points we come to an understanding that when we walk, when we do and the when we speak, we ought to be spotless, blameless and honest. That’s a difficult challenge in today’s world,Where we cannot trust anyone. Because we are children of the living God, we are commanded and instructed to obey them.
- Has no slander/insult on his tongue
- Who does no harm/wrong to his neighbor
- Who does not insult/disgrace another human being(known/unknown person)
We learn about not to use bad/slang words. If we look deeper into it, When God created human being, he created all of us alike. So, if you are used to speaking bad/words or if your insulting others consider the other person also has been made in God’s image. Let’s be mindful of what we speak. Our words should be filled with grace and that when others listen to us, they need to understand that God dwells in us. Also Bible clearly says that “Love your neighbor as yourself” if we obey that command, we will do no harm to our neighbors, nor would disgrace any other human being. As we all are formed in HIS(God’s) likeness. So be mindful, when we speak to others, we are talking to someone whom God created in His image, not to harm nor insult him/her. But to love as yourself.
- Who lends money without usury – usury means “exorbitant interest”
- Who do not accept bribe against the innocent – naïve or blameless person
Lending money for a good reason without usury or for for those in need is what we may need to practice. We notice that people are becoming more selfish and greedy towards money. Let’s not fall into the same category as the world does, but be wise in using money in the right way. Also following verse talks about not to accept bribe against the innocent. What good does it bring to accept bribe against the innocent. Remember one day we are answerable to God, for everything we do on this earth.
- Who hates wicked person
- Who honors those who fear Lord
- Who keeps his/her oath even when they are hurt
There is no good in a wicked person. His/her thoughts, deeds and actions are to be disliked. And it is so obvious that such person will be hated.
If we fear the Lord, no matter if the other person hurts us, because of the fear for the Lord in us, we still continue to love that person and keeps up the oath whatever was made. We need to honor such person who has that fear and who also exhibits the beautiful nature of keepingup his oath even though he’s hurt. It describes of a godly character.
Whoever follows all that described above will never be shaken/moved but will dwell in the Lord’s holy hill and His Sanctuary.
